Back in a stick shift again for a daily driver. I mean, I’ve had a stick shift project car for a while now but my ‘71 Stang is not a good daily. This 2012 Focus is a great daily driver though, as well as good handling, free revving, gas sipping, and easy shifting.
It is not the fastest thing in the world, not by any means. But its just fast enough to be fun and I’m beginning to enjoy driving again. I throw in a CD with the background music to Need for Speed III and I am good to go. If you don’t know who Rom Di Prisco is, look him up on YouTube.
A little question for newer Focus owners though, does the engine seem kind of rattle-y to you on a cold start? Even when warmed up, there is still a very, very minor rattle I can hear at idle when I stand in front of the car but my girlfriend thinks I’m just obsessed with the noises that cars make. Car runs fine, was just inspected and no bad dash lights are on so I’m not too worried, just curious.

Direct injection ticking is probably the rattle you speak of. Totally normal.

I’m thinking about one of these for my next DD. My best friend had one a few years ago, but it was an automatic. He liked it, but he hasn’t had it for a couple years now.

Man it’s almost like there’s some kind of...FIESTA...happening underneath the hood. Jeez. How am I supposed to remain...FOCUSED...with all that noise? Man, I bet...MUSTANGS...make less noise when they gallop at full speed. When are cars going to be quiet? Do we need to power them with...FUSION...reactors before that happens? Man, If I wanted a noisy commute, I’d just leave the car ride a

New Mazdas advance timing to heat the cat faster on cold start, not sure about fords but maybe something similar?

The newer autos are... weird. My mom has a Focus like mine but it’s blue and auto. Thing is, it’s not really an “auto”, it’s a computer controlled dual clutch and it’s not very smooth. Many Ford faithful grandmas have been thrown off by shuddery take offs and harsh shifts, which Ford says is normal.
Just buy a manual Focus, it's brilliant.

Damn, that could definitely be it. Normal idle noise is probably direct injection but it definitely could advance timing for cold starts. I have noticed the Focus comes off of C on the temp gauge unusually quick.

Yeah, it would definitely be a manual. I don’t plan on owning another automatic for as long as humanly possible.

Yeah I used to drive a dual clutch focus for work and it was awful,I thought it was the traction control all winter and then it got nice out and was still lurchy and rough. I’ve heard the newer programming is much better though I can’t say from experience.

Just a thought, now that Mazda is free of ford, I don't know much about fords lol.
